The long promised Ex-Tyrannomon model arrives!

Official art

Ex-Tyrannomon is one of many Digimon that gets almost no love and never appears in any of anime series or manga. But I think it’s adorable and I love it to pieces.

I heavily altered it from Velociraptors at the races by Digitprop (there are a couple of other versions on that website too), including altering the head shape so it had a wider open mouth, adding articulated arms, changing the posture slightly, and making the legs bigger to match the art of Ex-Tyrannomon. The legs were pretty much the hardest part.

Three papercraft models. Two are the same model, a velociraptor or tyrannosaur in blue and orange with white racing stripes. The other is Ex-Tyrannomon and slightly bigger. It has articulated arms and head.

The arms and head are articulated with toothpicks.

I had to scrutinize the available official art, of which there isn’t much, to figure out the stitches and number of spikes. And I originally designed it with too few spikes, but noticed one peeking from the tail on this art:

Obviously, some Chosen Child needs to have Ex-Tyrannomon has their partner in the next series of Digimon.

I started with a white model. It took me two or three tries to get the legs correct, cuz I screwed up once.

I thought I could fit more spikes on its back than I could, so I had to fix that. I had to make a lot of adjustments to the head as well.

I was happy with the general shape pretty quick, but it was a little harder to get the art lined up along the flaps. And I fixed the art, but then forget I meant to fix the middle tooth, so I had to do it again.

But now it’s incredibly cute and expressive! You can get the template here or on my deviant art. It’s a PDF and you’re free to alter it for your personal use and share your altered versions. Just don’t sell it.
