Paying for scripts and ideas

I’ll pay for ideas and scripts for my podcast A Heroic Moment. Pay is low, cuz it’s only five minutes long, but it is paid. You can listen or read transcripts at http://aheroicmoment.libsyn.com for the general format. Pay is $7 for a whole episode script (I’ll edit) or $1 to $3 for ideas. You will get credit.

Heroes you’ve made up or public domain heroes only. Try to avoid blatant take offs of existing non-public domain characters. You can use any of the existing characters except Sam Tetz, Balefire, Erik, and Felino (I have ideas for Sam, Balefire and Felino are long-time OCs that I know well, and Erik is a public domain character who I’ve been using as an OC and know well).

Characters can be students, staff, or teachers at the HIT Academy or other heroes or related characters in any of the established worlds, or a new one. (For example, you could write another wolf of Bright Moon or Pilot of Squall-Prime). Self-inserts and “”over-powered”” or “”Mary Sues”” are welcome. (Balefire is all three, which is why she’s not the viewpoint character and I’ve had gods and demons featured). They don’t have to be human or humanoid or corporeal (ghosts, intelligent colors, gas clouds, sentient planets, it’s ALL ok!). They can be relatives or in relationships with other characters.

I’m also looking for ideas / scripts for main topics, events, and sponsors. This can be:

cultures, whether of an existing planet/universe or not

  • heroes famous in-universe
  • superhero tropes
  • stuff about HIT Academy
  • stuff about superhero teams, whether at HIT Academy or not
  • villains or villain types
  • HIT Academy classes
  • different martial arts
  • different types of powers, with some example characters (just a name is fine for that)
  • funny sponsors
  • superhero related sponsors
  • events related to superheroes
  • team-ups between different heroes
  • origin stories
  • mythology and folklore

I have an wiki I can share.

I’m white, English speaking, from a Christian background, and from California. I try to recognize my biases but there are ruts I’m in and stuff I don’t know that I don’t know. Basically if you can’t see yourself on TV or in comics without it being a horrendous stereotype, if it’s there at all, I’m open. Here are some specific heroes I’d like some/more of:

  • autistic characters
  • disabled characters
  • chronically ill characters
  • Mentally ill characters
  • neuroatypical characters
  • Muslim or Jewish heroes
  • religious characters (you can touch on how they deal with meeting actual gods and demons or not as you please) (please note: I will be super picky with Christian heroes)
  • Older heroes
  • more queer heroes
  • I’ve talked about a whole culture of people with dwarfism, most of which are deaf or hard-of-hearing (the Pilots of Squall-Prime) but welcome some #ownvoices representation (not limited to the Pilots, of course)
  • more POC heroes – which could be most of the characters already mentioned (Sam isn’t human and doesn’t see like humans do)
  • non-American heroes, even if they’re white. Just don’t ask me/Sam to speak something other than English without a terrible accent
  • American characters from non-mainstream cultures and accents. Y’know, like an accurate representation of somebody from Appalachia, etc.
  • characters written by #ownvoices creators (these will be judged much lighter than other characters because I know I can trust you to get it correct)

For characters I need a name, their powers, a little bit of history, and at least one thing they’ve done or been involved in. Ideas for other stuff can be more vague.

Again, this is paid, although not much. I have a wiki you can work from if you want and transcripts are available for all the episodes.

The White Knight #1 – Devotion

Content warnings for talk of police corruption, references to military service, chronic illness, hospitals, shooting (nothing graphic), blood and medical issues, prejudice against fictional people, talk of gangs, non-graphic violence, mentions of drug and alcohol addiction, misgendering (in the context of someone assuming the gender where it’s not known), mention of spiders and rats, smoking, and swearing.

Many thanks to LB Lee and KristyCat for sensitivity and beta-reading. Any mistakes are my own.

Please let me know if you see any typos or other mistakes. Thanks.

Shard City doesn’t love anybody, but I can’t help loving it. It has its bright spots but unless you stay in those small oases it turns into a very ugly place at night, The cops hardly try anymore – too many crimes, too many gangs. It’s funny how you get used to it. Used to watching out for the sun setting, for the alleys like open mouths, for the people with gleaming eyes and hidden weapons. I’m sick of it. And I mean to do something about it.

My name is Delia Tyelu. I’m the White Knight.

I’ve started a podcast!

If you follow me on twitter or Facebook you’ve already seen me talking (incessantly, on Twitter) about this, but here’s an official announcement: I’ve started producing a podcast. I’m writing, voicing, and editing it, and I’m open to suggestions.

It’s called A Heroic Moment and it’s a short (about five minutes) podcast set at the radio station of a school for heroes. I’m going to try to be just as diverse as I can – there are already scripts written involving trans, fat, deaf,  and wheelchair-using heroes. And, yes, I’ll be providing transcripts.

You can listen and comment at http://aheroicmoment.libsyn.com and it should show up in Itunes, Google Play, and Spotify in the next couple of days if it hasn’t already.

Of interest to no one but myself: my recurring themes and tropes

I have a ton of stories and characters that I come up with that I never write down (mostly because, hooo boy, Mary Sue and self-insert ahoy, wow.) I’m including those in these, because, well, I can. It’s my site. ;)

At nothing else, you can use this as a reason to get lost on the TV Tropes site for a few hours. I’ll be adding stuff as I think of it, basically so I can then get it out of my head and preferably stop making the same list over and over again.

  • Villain Protagonist I love writing villains and bad guys, so I tend to write more of them than heroes. It does mean some of my other recurring themes get some Unfortunate Implications because every time I write that kind of character it’s a bad guy.
  • Morality Kitchen Sink, Even Evil Has Loved Ones, Even Evil Has Standards, Blue and Orange Morality. It’s hard to write an absolutely evil character when you’re in his head (although I manage if the situation calls for it). And, well, complicated characters are more fun.
  • Mind Hive. I like to write characters who have a couple of people living in their heads. Unfortunately, this is one of the ones that bugs me, because right now all those characters are bad guys right now. And I do believe in Healthy Multiplicity so I want to fix that (The one good thing is that those characters are generally complicated and are more grey morality than black. So, that helps. Still need to fix it though.)
  • The Sleepless. Several of my characters have weird or irregular sleep schedules that don’t impact them poorly. For some of them it’s to emphasize that they’re odd. Some of the others it’s just the way they are.
  • Tall, thin men in nice suits. Yeah, it’s Author Appeal. Also cat people, barefooting, and a bunch of things that don’t need to be mentioned here.
  • Superpowers. Mutants. Spandex. Yeah, I read too many X-men comics as a kid and now I read too many Batman comics.
  • Hurt / Comfort. Sometimes without the comfort. (aka Whump)
  • Masks and Scars. Partially goes with the superhero stuff. Partially just because masks are cool. Sometimes goes as far as Full Body Disguise, especially for superheroes (I’m not a big fan of the domino mask…)
  • One True Love. Which is silly, because it’s not something I believe in real life. At least when I write it, it doesn’t mean that the relationship will be easy. Usually combined with some sort of soul-link thing (I rarely go as far as telepathy. Because telepathy is highly overrated).
  • Nearly instant language learning or Universal translator. Generally through some sort of telepathy or magic.
  • Older than they look. I keep writing these characters that are practically immortal or have a healing factor that keeps them looking young. (yes, alright, I read too many comic books, okay?)
  • Characters with mental illnesses or personality disorders, usually things that don’t exactly match up with anything real. I did mention too much Batman, right?

30 Characters Challenge #3 – Vermilion / Ronnie Boyd

Vermilion

Real name: Donald Boyd Jr. Goes by Ronnie.

Hair color: Black

Eye color: Brown

Skin tone: African American

Ronnie heals twice as fast as normal with no scarring. Aside from that, his supersuit makes him nearly invulnerable. He was given an old, worthless but pretty blanket by his archeologist uncle. When he wrapped himself in it, it transformed to a rubber-like suit that acts as a second skin. He added boots, a belt with pouch that holds essentials, and goggles with night-vision capabilities.

Ronnie is from a so-far untitled superhero romance I started in October. No idea when it’ll be finished, but one other character from it will be showing up for this. It’s been kind of frustrating, as my friends have heard, because I’m not going to do anything major with the story – I might put it up on the web somewhere, but that’ll be it. And yet it wouldn’t leave me alone when I should have been preparing for NaNoWriMo.

The images were made in Poser 7, using Michael 4, the free Nadino Mask, various other props, and a custom texture for the suit. Which isn’t perfect, but I ran out of patience to fiddle with it.
